Academic and Career Planning, or ACP, is a student-driven, adult-supported process in which students create and cultivate their own unique and information-based visions for post secondary success, obtained through self-exploration, career exploration, and the development of career management and planning skills. At each grade level, students are given the opportunity to reflect on these components with a variety of exploration activities within the Riverview course curriculum, PEP Talks, and various ACP field trip opportunities.
Xello
Xello is an online program utilized by students in the Plymouth School District that helps them prepare for the future. It offers a variety of activities from kindergarten to the end of high school. These activities help students build self-knowledge, explore their options, and create achievable plans. They develop the 21st-century skills needed to thrive in the world of work. It’s important for students to take ownership in planning for their future. Additionally, the caring adults in their life play an essential supporting role. Parents may use their Xello Family account to see their child’s work in future-readiness. Parents can use this opportunity to discuss and support their child's future goals and plans. Please click here to access the Xello website.
6th Grade PEP Talks
Sixth grade PEP Talks take place during class time in spring. During your child's 6th grade PEP Talk, the following Xello topics will be discussed:
Matchmaker The Matchmaker assessment is a great starting point for students who want to find careers that suit their interests. The Matchmaker is an interactive survey that asks questions about a student’s likes and dislikes. It will then match his/her interests to suitable careers. Students can take the assessment as many times as they like. Please note, students are not pressured to pursue only their career matches.
Personality Style The Personality Style inventory includes a series of questions that are related to the Holland Model. This model refers to John Holland’s six personality types: Realistic, Investigative, Artistic, Social, Enterprising, and Conventional. Xello will help match careers that are best suited to your child’s personality type results. Most students will have a mix of two to three of these personality styles.
Learning Style The Learning Style inventory is designed to help students understand how they learn and retain information. Based on a student’s responses, the program will determine his/her learning style, which includes visual, auditory, and/or tactile. The Learning Style profile displays the percentage of his/her responses based on the three styles and provides feedback about what it means to be a visual, auditory, and/or tactile learner. The results also include techniques for studying and learning new information.
